Preparing Your Mind for Living Foods
10 Essential Mindset Shifts for a Sustainable Approach
Because changing what you eat can mean changing far more than what's on your plate.
Prepare for your transition with greater clarity, confidence and balance—without restriction, burnout or all-or-nothing thinking.
When I began studying and incorporating more fresh, raw living plant foods into my diet, one of my biggest challenges was figuring out what to eat—especially in the morning—and preparing myself for a way of eating that felt unfamiliar.
Over time, it became easier.
My palate changed. The more living foods I ate, the more I began to crave them and the less I wanted many of the foods I'd eaten before. I felt healthier, lighter and clearer in my mind. I lost excess weight, noticed positive changes in my hair, nails and skin, and some of the symptoms I had been experiencing began to disappear.
But something else was happening too.
I was discovering that changing the way you eat isn't only about food.
It's about everything that surrounds it.
There was preparation I wish I'd known about
I had questions.
What am I actually going to eat?
Does this have to be all or nothing?
If I eat something cooked, does that mean I've failed?
And the people around me had questions too.
Are you getting enough protein?
Are you getting enough carbohydrates?
What will you eat when we go out?
What about the foods you grew up eating?
Some of those questions came from genuine concern. But they also showed me something I hadn't fully appreciated when I began:
Food is rarely just food.
It's culture.
Identity.
Comfort.
Habit.
Emotion.
Routine.
Connection.
And sometimes, changing what's on your plate can feel—to you and to the people around you—as though you're changing something much bigger.
That's why preparing your mind matters.
You can honour where you come from and still choose differently for your wellbeing
Food can be deeply connected to heritage and identity.
But changing how you prepare a familiar ingredient doesn't mean rejecting where you come from.
Take chickpeas.
Someone else might use chickpeas in a traditional curry. I might sprout mine. And sometimes I might enjoy them in a cooked curry too.
It's the same food. I'm simply choosing different ways to use it.
That realisation helped me understand something important:
You don't have to reject your culture to explore what supports your wellbeing.
You don't have to criticise how anyone else eats.
And you don't have to make your own health choices a judgement on theirs.
You can simply say:
This is what I'm choosing for myself right now.
And it doesn't have to be all or nothing
At one point, I worried that if I needed or wanted some cooked food, I was somehow failing.
Then one of my tutors said something that stayed with me:
"It's not about 100% living foods. It's about 100% health."
That changed how I looked at the journey.
Your climate matters.
Your body matters.
Your circumstances matter.
And your goals matter.
You may want to add a green smoothie to your morning.
You may want to incorporate more living-food meals throughout your week.
Or you may be preparing to overhaul your diet and transition predominantly or completely to living foods.
Your journey doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
10 mindset shifts to help you approach living foods differently
That's why I created Preparing Your Mind for Living Foods: 10 Essential Mindset Shifts for a Sustainable Approach.
Because before changing what you eat, it can help to prepare for the thoughts, beliefs and expectations that can shape the experience.
The guide takes you through 10 essential mindset shifts designed to help you approach living foods with greater awareness and confidence.
They help you think differently about:
all-or-nothing thinking and the pressure to be perfect;
keeping living foods simple and sustainable;
navigating habits, routines and emotional connections to food;
culture, identity and the meaning we attach to the foods we eat;
planning ahead so that living foods are available when you need them;
navigating other people's questions, concerns and opinions;
focusing on what you can eat rather than what you're giving up;
adapting your approach to your lifestyle, environment and individual needs;
building confidence in the choices you're making for yourself;
creating an approach that you can genuinely live with.
Whether you're simply looking to increase the amount of fresh, raw living plant foods you eat or you're preparing to overhaul your diet with living foods, these shifts can help you approach that change feeling more informed and prepared.
You don't need to become a raw food chef
This matters to me.
Living foods can look complicated from the outside.
But they don't have to be.
A smoothie can be simple.
A salad can be satisfying.
A living-food soup doesn't have to contain twenty ingredients.
Courgette noodles can be paired with a simple sauce.
Sprouted chickpeas can become hummus.
You can learn more elaborate techniques if you want to—but complexity isn't a requirement for nourishing yourself well.
For many people, especially those who are already tired, busy or simply trying to make healthier choices, simple is what makes change sustainable.
One of the most important lessons I've learned is:
Keep it simple enough to keep doing it.
Imagine approaching living foods differently
Instead of wondering:
What on earth am I going to eat?
You begin to see possibilities.
Instead of thinking:
I have to do this perfectly.
You understand that every positive addition can count.
Instead of feeling caught between your wellbeing and other people's expectations, you feel more prepared to make your own choices.
Instead of seeing living foods as a collection of complicated, unfamiliar recipes, you begin learning how to make them part of your life.
And instead of waiting until you know everything, you give yourself permission to begin simply.
What you'll gain from Preparing Your Mind for Living Foods
You'll come away with a better understanding of the mindset that can support a sustainable approach to living foods—and the things worth considering before and during your transition.
You'll learn that you don't have to approach living foods with perfectionism.
That planning can make healthier choices easier to maintain.
That simplicity can be one of your greatest tools.
That your food choices can change without rejecting your identity.
That other people's reactions don't have to determine what you choose for your own wellbeing.
And that there is no single version of a successful living-food journey.
The goal isn't to follow somebody else's rules. It's to become more prepared to make choices that work for you.
